Marvel Studios has announced that James Spader will play Ultron in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel scheduled for a May 1, 2015 release.

Marvel did not specify if Spader would be providing his voice only, or if he would physically appear in the movie.

Spader, 53, earned three Emmy Awards for his role as Alan Shore on Boston Legal and The Practice, and will return to television this fall in NBC’s The Blacklist.

Most recently, Spader was seen in Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg.
