Ben Affleck has been cast as the new Batman in Warner Bros.’ untitled Superman/Batman movie. The studio has also set a July 17, 2015 release for the movie.

The announcement was made by Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production, and Sue Kroll, president, worldwide marketing and international distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are reprising their roles from Man of Steel, with Zack Snyder again directing.

Silverman said, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics; most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Affleck, 40, directed the most-recent Academy Award-winning movie, Argo.

He has a history in comic-book movies, starring as Daredevil in the 2003 movie. He also played Superman actor George Reeves in 2006’s Hollywoodland and played a comic-book creator in 1997’s Chasing Amy.

JL-EH DC Comics has announced that Justice League of America will become Justice League Canada in 2014 as part of changes across the Justice League books following Forever Evil.

Jeff Lemire, who is from Toronto, will write the title, with art by Mike McKone.
